How it works

Three steps between you and a licensed agent

No paperwork, no office visit, no obligation to buy anything. Here is the whole process.

Tell us about the vehicle

Year, make and model, plus whether you carry coverage today. Vehicle age and repair cost drive a large share of what an auto insurance policy is priced at.

Add your ZIP and driver details

Auto insurance is regulated state by state and rated ZIP by ZIP. Your location tells us which carriers can legally write your policy in the first place.

A licensed agent reaches out

We route your request to agents and carriers active in your state. They review pricing and availability with you, and you decide whether to move forward.

Coverage types

Know what you are actually buying

Auto insurance is a stack of separate coverages, not one product. Here is what each part does, in plain English.

Liability

Pays for injury and property damage you cause to other people. Every state except New Hampshire requires a minimum amount, and those minimums are often lower than a single hospital stay.

Collision

Repairs your own vehicle after an impact, no matter who was at fault. Pairs with a deductible you choose — a higher deductible lowers the premium and raises what you pay out of pocket.

Comprehensive

Covers the things that happen when you are nowhere near the car: hail, theft, fire, flood, falling branches, a deer at dusk. Common in hail and wildfire states.

Uninsured motorist

Steps in when the at-fault driver has no coverage or not enough of it. Roughly one in seven U.S. drivers is uninsured, and in some states it is closer to one in four.

Medical payments & PIP

Handles medical bills for you and your passengers regardless of fault. Personal injury protection is mandatory in no-fault states like Florida, Michigan, New York and New Jersey.

SR-22 & FR-44 filings

A state-ordered certificate proving you carry the required liability limits. Not every carrier will file one, so flag it early and you will be routed to those that do.

Roadside & rental

Towing, jump starts, lockouts, and a rental car while yours is in the shop. Cheap add-ons individually, worth checking whether a card or club already covers them.

Non-owner policies

Liability coverage for drivers who borrow or rent but do not own a vehicle. Often the cheapest way to keep continuous coverage on your record between cars.

Nationwide

Every state has its own rulebook

Auto insurance is regulated at the state level, so the same driver in the same car is underwritten completely differently across a state line. Minimum liability limits, no-fault rules, whether credit can be used in pricing, how an SR-22 is handled — all of it changes.

That is why the form starts with your ZIP. We only route you to agents and carriers licensed to write auto insurance where you live.

Relative weighting is illustrative. Every carrier builds its own rating model.

Rate factors

Why two neighbors pay different amounts

Carriers do not price auto insurance off a single number. They score a bundle of factors, weight them their own way, and file that model with the state. Two people on the same street, in the same car, can land far apart because one commutes 22,000 miles a year and the other works from home.

The factors below are the ones that move the needle most. None of them are secret — an agent will walk you through exactly which apply to your situation.

  • Where the car sleeps at nightGaraging ZIP, theft rates, weather exposure and local repair labor costs.
  • How long since your last incidentMost violations and at-fault claims fall off the rating window after three to five years.
  • Whether you have had a gapContinuous coverage is one of the strongest signals carriers look at.

Driver feedback

What drivers tell us afterward

Collected from post-request surveys. Individual experiences vary — every driver's situation is different.

I moved from Tucson to Henderson and assumed my policy just followed me. It did not. The agent I got matched with explained the Nevada minimums in about four minutes and fixed the gap that same afternoon.

Daniel M. Henderson, NV · 2019 Tacoma

Had a lapse after my hours got cut and figured nobody would write me. Two of the three agents who called handled lapses all day long. Nobody made me feel like a problem case.

Rosa C. Phoenix, AZ · 2014 Civic

The form itself took maybe a minute, which is the part I actually cared about. Phone rang faster than I expected — heads up on that. Once I told the second agent I was set, the calls stopped.

Questions

Auto insurance, answered

Auto insurance pricing depends on your ZIP code, driving record, vehicle year and model, annual mileage, the coverage limits and deductibles you pick, and in most states an insurance-based credit profile. Because every carrier weights those inputs differently, the range for the same driver can be genuinely wide. Ask each agent what applies to your situation.

Yes. Drivers never pay us anything. We are compensated by the licensed agents and carriers who receive your request. That is the whole business model, and we would rather you know it up front than find out later.

Usually one to four licensed agents or carriers who write auto insurance in your state. You are never obligated to continue with any of them. Reply STOP to any text, or tell an agent to remove you, and the contact stops.

It is not a legal term, which trips a lot of people up. "Full coverage" is shorthand for a policy that carries your state's required liability limits plus collision and comprehensive, the two coverages that pay toward damage to your own vehicle. Lenders and leasing companies generally require it while the car is financed.

Only if your state has ordered one. An SR-22 is a certificate your insurer files to confirm you carry at least the minimum required liability coverage, typically after a DUI, a serious violation, or a period of driving uninsured. Not every carrier files them, so mention it on the first call and you will be routed to one that does.

No. Insurers pull a soft inquiry when they review an insurance-based credit score, and soft inquiries do not affect your credit score. Several states — California, Hawaii, Massachusetts and Michigan among them — restrict or prohibit the use of credit in auto insurance pricing entirely.

Most drivers hear from the first licensed agent within a few minutes during business hours. Requests submitted overnight or on a holiday are usually picked up the next business morning.

Yes. A gap makes you a higher-risk applicant and narrows which carriers will write you, but non-standard carriers exist for exactly this situation. Be upfront about the lapse so the agent routes you correctly the first time instead of the third.
